Randy Salinas, Baritone
Born in North Florida, Randy has been a native Floridian all his life. Growing up he was surounded by music and at an early age, found great intrest in the art of music himself.
In grade school he began to teach himself how to play the piano. Unfortunatly his family could not afford Piano Lessons at the time so this was the best he could do.
By the time Randy reached Middle School, his interest for music had grown to a greater level and he joined the Middle School Band. His first instrument would carry him all the way to his college years, the French Horn.
"I took an immediate liking to the rich sound and its unique look." said Randy when we asked him what really interested him about this instrument. He played in the High School band as well, but soon Randy began to take interest in another type of music.
In his junior year in High School, Randy was convinced by the Choir Director of his High School to join choir and to see what he thought. Immediately he took a great liking to choral music and the vocal world, but found his curriculum could not sustain choir, so he was not able to continue to be in the choir.
Randy continued to help the choir in any way he could and in the second half of his senior year, began to take private voice lessons with the Choir Director to expand his knowledges. This was not his only reason.
"To be completely honest...I wanted a back up plan for college. I was not that great at French Horn at the time, but felt I was a natural at voice."
This was exactly the case when Randy got his acceptance letter to Stetson University, he was accepted to major in voice, not horn. "It was a little painful but I made the commitment to continue horn until my college career was over!"
Randy is currently a student at Stetson University studying voice and still playing the Horn. He is in multiple ensembles including the University Symphonic Band, the Stetson Men's Choir, and the Stetson Opera Theater Company.
